Non-Governmental Public Organization "The Jewish Community of the Republic of Moldova" was founded in 1989.
The Jewish Community of the Republic of Moldova mission is here to promote creation and maintaining of a strong and united Jewish community in the Republic of Moldova, community that remembers its past and looks into the future.
The main goal of Jewish NGO is creation of conditions that will enhance development of Jewish identity and provide preservation of the ethnic group in the state of Moldova.
Accordingly, the activities of the community is divided into several areas:
- Social Programs
- Cultural activities
- Education
- Protection of cultural and historical heritage
- Confronting antisemitism
The structure of the Jewish Community of the Republic of Moldova includes 9 regional communities: the municipality of Balti community; Bender; Grigoriopol; Dubossari; Cahul; Orhei; Rybnitsa; Soroca; Tiraspol, as well as the following organizations: Moldovan Association of Jews – Former Nazism Prisoners, Republican Union of Jews War 1941-1945 Veterans, Association of World War II Jewish refugees, Jewish Library "Itz. Manger", Jewish Student Cultural Center "Hillel" in Moldova, The community of sefard Jews, Bukharian and Georgian Jews "Dzhuhur", Synagogue "Chabad Lubavitch".
The Jewish Community of the Republic of Moldova (JCM) is a member of the European Jewish Congress, the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, the World Jewish Congress. JCM is a part of signed Cooperation Agreement with the Federation of Jewish Communities of Romania, JCM maintains close communication and collaboration with the All-Ukrainian Jewish Congress, the Russian Jewish Congress, the World Congress of Russian Jewry, as well as friendly relationship with the American Jewish Committee and other international Jewish organizations and foundations.
